WELCOME!

ABOUT US:

The purpose of “Celebrating Community Champions – Everyday Heroes among Us” is to recognize people who are actively engaged and involved in their communities.

These individuals are the invisible champions that are contributing to society, and strengthening the fabric of their neighbourhoods and communities.  Their contributions range from formal to informal.

The celebration is a two-day event that will celebrate the efforts of ordinary citizens in Winnipeg, who through their kind acts create a sense of community for all to enjoy.

Nominate your Community Hero Today!

There will be three main components to the event:

September 8, 2006

A Media Kick Off Event – Launching “Celebrating Community Champions” theme song.

A Traveling Awards Show - (Think of Ed McMahon and Publishers Clearing House Sweepstakes Style), where we will recognize the winners at their homes or places of work.

September 9, 2006 - St. John's Park

12:00 - 4:00 p.m.

A Family Fun Day to recognize the award winners, complete with live entertainment, a Bar-B-Q and fun activities for the entire family.

The Canada Volunteerism Initiative (CVI) works to support active citizenship at the community or regional level – in the organizations most closely in touch with volunteers and the needs of the organizations engaging them. It is through Local Networks that the CVI gains a regionally sensitive understanding of volunteers and organizations that involve volunteers. These are the champions that the CVI relies on to identify volunteer priorities in their communities. The Local Networks are made up of individuals from not-for-profit and charitable organizations of all types and sizes––food banks and literacy groups to well-known national charities.

The Manitoba Canada Volunteerism Initiative Network: Winnipeg Neighbourhood Community Leadership Group (WNCLG) provides local opportunities for civic engagement, collaboration, mobilization, and celebration of individuals in community to strengthen their formal and informal participation in community building.
